Has taken his last Five. He was 92. Always amazed me how he and Desmond could sound so easy and relaxed, playing in 7/4 time.

Big H and McCoy - just thought you'd want to know.

I got out "Brandenberg Gate Revisited" (on vinyl). I never cared for it all that much, with all the syrupy strings, but today it sounds about right.

Big H - back to Bogor or Jakarta in late January, to teach the short course on bendungan safety again.

I am/was a huge Brubeck fan! I'm sure it was in 1974 I first saw him and several times thereafter. I remember the girl I took to see him loved it so much, she moved to their hometown, followed the quartet and got to know the whole lot. I have many of his albums and recordings (reel to reel) of other great work. Just love Desmond and Mulligan. I used to know all the bass and drum players. There were a few changes over the years and I got most of it.

I'm having nostalgia. . .

Hey Dave -
It was sad to hear - but a day shy of 92 - he lived a good life and was one of the first jazz artists I started to listen to . . . He had some pretty good stuff and I even had a book of sheet music and "almost" learned "Its a Raggy Waltz".

At Fattdad - never saw him live - but have about 6 or so albums . . .

Bogor - why not talk them into letting you come up to Malaysia! I attended a workshop on Saturday that Malcolm Bolton was running - very interesting guy and ripped Eurocode 7 to shreds . . .

Cheers to all!

Met Bolton once at a centrifuge research meeting somewhere. He seemed to have some...uh...strongly held opinions, so it's not too surprising he critiqued Eurocode 7, with which I am not at all familiar. (I operate in a land without codes, aside from codes of ethics and honor, like Roy Rogers or Ben Cartwright in the Old West. Don't steal a man's water, never draw your gun first, never swear in front of a lady, and always check filter compatibility. We just have to sell whatever we're doing to internal and/or external review panels.)

A side trip to Malaysia sounds like fun, but it would put Mrs. dgillette in a bit of a bind, and I'm already missing seeing my son in an opera "scenes" performance. Yeah, he's studying to be an opera singer. Also, I've promised that same son a Who concert on 2/12, wherein they are doing all or most of Quadrophenia. At the rate they are aging and dropping off, it might be the last chance ever. I last saw them in '82.

Me after Who concert if it's as loud as last time --> [shocked]

Did you see the 121212 concert? Kanye West was sure out of place. Stones 'cheated' - but maybe they were tired. The WHO picked up and did about 5 numbers. But as Jagger said - it was probably the oldest collection of British rockers ever put together on the same stage!

Sometime on the visit . . . . enjoy the concerts and trip to Indonesia.

Cheers

Nope, missed that, dangit. We had my son's choir concert that night. He goes to an arts high school, and it was NOT your typical high school concert, i.e., it was worth going to.
