What DC contactor manufacturers do you know?
coil: 24VDC or 48VDC
rating: 100A, 200A, 400A at 24V/48V
duty cycle: 100%

I know so far:
Albright (UK)
Schaltbau München (GE)
Tyco HARTMAN Aerospace
Tyco KILOVAC Aorespace
Trombetta+- (US)

How would you rate their products?

Which would you recommend?

It depends on the application I suppose. Two good manufacturers are:
Siemens Sirius Contactors
Allen Bradley

They seem to work well for industrial applications.

ABB's R-Line range is good, cheaper than Siemens too.

Telemecanique's older DC contactor range is excellent, just to prove that I don't have a permanent downer of Telemecanique's products like some people think!

Hubbell also make DC contactors, although I haven't used them on a 'serious' job. They did well on a development rig where we abused them somewhat.

There has been discussion of this on Eng-Tips before. Try the search function. Try thread237-64659 for starters.

Joslyn Clark makes DC rated contactors. Allen-Bradley removed their DC contactors from their catalog and they are going to try to tell you to go to somebody else. Actually, their NEMA style AC contactors also suffer from Spare Parts Conspiracy problems as well. Older Allen-Bradley IEC style overload relays will not fit replacement IEC motor controllers either.

Sticking in somebody else's contactor can be a pain in a certain body part if there was just enough room for the original part. I have seen instances where it was necessary to rewire a control panel or attach an extra box because of the issue.
