OK. Liquid Nitrogen works in removal of bonded rubber with metal structures. MEK by "swelling" rubber and weakening the bond...
QUESTION: if I have hardened stainless steel where extreme temp variations are frowned upon... And a MEK slurry of rubber can't be an option..(nor L.N. fracturing). What's next? I have experimented with de bonding Buna/Nitrile from S.S. The best process yet is a heating and cooling pattern, causing metal to expand and contract... Breaking the bond without need of stripping the rubber. I've also read about ultrasonic separation (submersed in a fluid). Any links or ideas? Metal (for de bonding) can't heat above 450°F. I'm not sure y yet...

I'm more interested in what type of glue was used to bond the rubber

If it is bonded with a glue or primer to the metal you have to worry about it and not the rubber. Do you know the method of bonding? If the rubber is in fact Buna-N, acetone will be slightly better than MEK or you can go to the other end of the spectrum and try an oil. You can heat up the oil to speed up swelling and penetration.
