Hello,

Maybe a basic question for you experts but,

I have an installation drawing created by using a number of models that are nolonger attached to the drawing. All views are transformed to curves. No associativity. Dead views.
Question 1: How do I create this kind of views? Views that remain when the model is not present. In Catis V4 I used Space to draw.
Question 2: How do I re-attach a model to the drawing to be able to create more views?

Thanks,

/Fredrik

Well, if you're using the Master Model approach, then your Drawings are actually 'Assemblies' where the model or product is a component in the Drawing file. Once views are created, there is an option which will extract the edges of the model into the view (and thus onto the Drawing itself). Once this has been done, you can literally delete the component(s) and the Drawing will remain valid, but static with no link back to the original models. Is it possible that this is what happened with your Drawing files?

Thanks for the answer.
Yes, we use Master Model.
I tried to add components to the drawing file but got an error message. I will try again and see. What is the command called that extracts the edges?

When in a Drawing, select the view(s) that you wish to extract curves into, press MB3, select 'Style', select the 'General' tab and near the bottom of the dialog items you will see an item labled 'Extracted Edges'. Just set that to 'Associative' and hit the OK button and the displayed edges of the model will be extracted and added to the Drawing sheet.

noticed an issue with nx7.0.1.7 mp1 with trying to add components to a drawing (master model and TC 8.1) when clicking the add component button in the drawing (modeling application) nothing happens. In the master model it works but not in the drawing file of the master model. We use this to show reference geometry in drawings. This used to work in nx7.0.0.9. has anyone else experienced this?

cmacca,

The only thing that I can think of because I haven't tried it is that the behaviour may differ if you're using a faceted representation as the basis for you view instead of the solid geometry. To set this properly may depend on both having the correct reference set displayed and the correct settings as to how the view was added under the style settings.
