Debris Collectors at Outfall

A city agency is proposing a debris collector at a major outfall. The 25 year storm discharges about 3100 cfs. The manufacturer claims an extremely small head loss (.5'). I am skeptical and concerened about the outfall becoming clogged. The outfall is tidal so there is always some water in this large box culvert (24' wide).

Anyone with experience with debris collectors at large outfalls?

Most collectors only trap 'floatables'. the rocks baseballs, water logged branches and other transported solids are tough to catch in volumes you are talking about. you may want to look at pretreatment area just upstream from the outfall.
