Is there any Environmental, Health or Safety issues with decommissioning a self contained WWTP? I have a unit in Kabul that i am trying to cut up with Welding gas and need to know the best way to ensure the EHS standards are met. It is about 10 years old and rusty. it has not been washed or sanitized. Any thoughts on how to proceed?

Not aware of any particular environmental issues. Would recommend that the unit should be cleaned and that the waste solids should be removed. Probably a good idea to disinfect the unit by spraying it with household bleach prior to demolition.

Thanks to BIMR. I received this from a 2009 posting that correlates with what you are saying. Pump/vacuum dry in each tank and compartment. Mark each connection and nozzle as to use, size and destination. Spray a bleach solution, (1:16 dilution), prior to wrapping or enclosing with waterproof cover. Elevate/store on dunnage or skids.
