Hello all,

I am looking for any information regarding ASME requirements about deep drawing of stainless steel pressure vessel.
I will be thankful for any help.

Sounds to me like it would be exempt from (at least) Sec VIII, Div 1, based on diameter / volume. If not I'd think drawing would not be the preferred method of manufacture.

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Look at the rules for high strain forming and required post-forming heat treatment.

IdanPV, you really should state proposed Code of Construction for questions like this.

Are you talking about ASME Section VIII, Division 1, Appendix 44?

Hello all and thank you very much for your quick responses.

SnTMan - Diameter is 254mm and the length is 400mm, MAWP = 0.28MPa and U stamp is required.
EdStainless - Are you talking about UG-79 & UHA-44? If so, the design temperature for my case is below the limitations of Table UHA-44 (142°C). But, I do think that PFHT is required.
TGS4 - No, the design temp. is exceeding 44-2(d). So I don't think Appendix 44 is applicable for my case.

Thanks again

IdanPV, your dimensions would not seem to meet the definition of a deep draw.

You don't mention a specific alloy, but UHA-44 would not seem to require post form heat treat for most. Whether intermediate anneals would be required I can't guess. I bet Ed can though :)

Thank you all,

Alloy is SA240-316L.

From what I understand, it should not be a problem to Stamp the vessel with the U-Stamp?
or am I missing something?

As long as it is designed, manufactured and inspected IAW, you can stamp it.
