I have been defining some configuration for NX6.

When I create a drawing 'Non-master' part, I always get a numerical appendix to my user define appendix. e.g. XXXXXX_DWG1 when I want XXXXXX_DWG

Is it possible to turn this numerical appendix function off?

Cheers in advance,

NXj.....

Sorry, this is being done in an attempt to make sure that all file names are unique. Even if a file has not yet been saved, it's name must still be unique. All that you can control is the suffix used to designate that it's a Drawing, but you have no control over the appended and unique numeric (of course if you're running under TeamCenter you can have virtually total control of the file naming schemes, but in native, unless you customize the task using NX Open and a User Exit, you're sort of stuck with the current scheme).

Thanks for that information John (I was hoping you would reply).

I understand the reasoning behind what Siemens have done, but feel that naming conventions are the preserve of the customer, as many customers have very strict naming conventions, which down stream processes are dependent upon.

I strongly feel that hard coding configuration such as this does not help all of your customers (I’m guessing a customer requested this, and Siemens helpfully obliged).

These sorts of issues must be customer configurable in the DPV file, as it costs the customer money to manage these issues such as ‘custom code, what to do with legacy data etc, change of default behaviour mid project, altering downstream process to be tolerant of change etc etc’

Have a guess what ER I’m going to submit in the new year :)

In the mean time, thank you (and everyone on the forum) for your support over the year & seasons greetings to all.

We agree with you, but an ER will not get a lot of support since we already provide at least two solutions, TeamCenter and your ability to customize this process using NX Open and a User Exit.
