Hi all,
I have problem with my HDPE flange.
There are some defects found on the flange surface of HDPE Flange.

What is the acceptance criteria to asses the defect??
As i know, for metallic material we can refer to ASME PCC-1,but i dont know for non metallic material.

Thanks.

IMO, the damaged flange should be replaced if it's a new construction. May check with the HDPE manufacturing manual or consult with the vendor for a suggestion.

I would use the same criteria as for steel and let the contractor or vendor argue otherwise.

Or just tell them to replace it.

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

"Defect" is a conclusion. I think you should say that you have an "annomoly", or some such, and you are seaking some criteria on how to determine if it is a defect or not.

HI all,
thanks for the input.

@mk3223
the flange was found with some defect on the construction yard due to impropre storage / packing.

Vendor explained that it's defect on HDPE still OK, and there is some guidance that the maximum radial scracthes is 1/3 of flange width and max. depth is 1/16".

Vendor aslo advise to do mock-up test for hydrotest for further verification.

@jari001
noted, i will check the reference.

What you have is damage to the flange - not a defect. The decision you have is to repair, use as is, or replace it.

HI weldstan,

Thanks for the correction of the termniology. Yes it's damage not defect.
I found the acceptance critera as per PPI (Plastic Pipe Institute).

thanks,
