Does anyone have an industry-standard gradation for either of these terms?

Thanks!

It's usually 1/4 to 3/8 inch gravel - but this can vary.

how about AASHTO M43 (ASTM D 448) No. 8 or 89 gravel

Typically No. 89 gradation (ASTM C33)

This is a city spec from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Pea Gravel*

Sieve Size Percent Passing by Weight
12.5 mm 100%
10 mm 90 - 100%
5 mm 0 - 10%
2 mm 0 - 1%

* This material shall be clean naturally rounded aggregate.

The naturally rounded/nonfractured part can be important depending on the application (ie. naturally rounded stone should be used when pea gravel is being placed against a geomembrane or drain tile to eliminate puncturing).

Hope this helps.
