Deformable or flexible components

I'm trying to use deformable parts.
I've created a spring that has an expression to control the length.
I have 2 datum planes at either end of the spring (these update with the length).
I want to mate other components to the datumns to move my assy if the spring lenght is changed.
When I add the part it seems to work fine until I try and mate it in the assy. Once mate conditions are added the length goes "nuts".
I've tried the CAST documentation and their example part does something similar.
Am I missing something here.

Thanks in advance,

John Baker has uploaded a deformable spring component demo part to the UG BBS.

I did a deformable hose part. I had to define the detail as being deformable and then in the assembly I had to map the centerline of the hose to a spline and the hose followed the spline when I hit OK.

"Wildfires are dangerous, hard to control, and economically catastrophic."
"Fixed in the next release" should replace "Product First" as the PTC slogan.

Ben,

I don't think the problem is down to the component as I get strange results using the example spring that comes as part of the CAST training.
