Deformable part references?

Hello all,

NX7.5

I'm having a problem with a deformable part where when I try and deform the part within the assembly it asks me to resolve the references...I can then only select the references within the work part only and not entire assy so can't select the faces etc. I've only used deformable parts once before but don't remember it being this difficult!? Any ideas as to why it's happening?

The specific application is a hydraulic ram...i've tried boss's, sketch/extrude & cylinders but it seems to always ask for references!?

Make sure the 'Selection Scope' is set to 'Entire Assembly'.

That's wherein the problem lies, it only has within work part in the drop down menu...
