I'm having problems deleting layers that AutoCad tells me still contains objects. I am unable to find any objects in those layers and when I have AutoCad Select all it finds nothing to select. What could be causing the problem of Autocad thinking there is still something on the layer.

Thanks.

X ref parts or blocks that have not been purged?

Hi,

there are a lot of reasons, why layers can't be deleted.
1. Which AC-version are you running?
2. Do you have a really empty *.dwg? Try ctrl+a.
3. Try ajack's and taffcad's tip, don't forget the blocks inside the dims.
4. Maybe you have empty mtexts, or polylines with the length =0 -> try "_qselect"

My tip: Use "laydel" from the Expresstools, or copy&paste the objects into a new *.dwg...

Other than the reasons mentioned above, I hope that you are not trying to delete defpoint and the zero layers.

One of the most common and annoying reasons is blocks that have been used. They may have been created using the layers that you cant delete. In this case you have to explode the block and move the components to a layer you want to keep then purge and try deleting the layer again. Its always a good idea to do a backup before you start this. On thing to keep in mind is that when you explode some of the more complicated blocks and put them on a new layer the colours may revert to the new layer colour.

Thank you for everyones help. I'm using AutoCad LT 2004. Once i purged the blocks as stated above I was able to remove the layers I wanted deleted.

Thanks again!
