I'm in quite a bind at my current location. I have a Delta Tau drive as shown in the title. It has died on us and we're in need of a replacement ASAP. Only issue is they seem built to order and none of Delta Tau's distributors checking nationwide have any. They all claim 3-6 months built to order. We found a backup but it's also labeled repair, so someone did not do their due diligence in repairing or saving the backup in the past. After ten years of thermal cycling in an AC'd cabinet getting hot, the boards are in bad condition. No one has answered yes to being able to board level repair. This leaves me with only one other option in which I'm not a drive expert in this area but could another drive supplement this one that may be readily available? I know the PMAC and Delta Tau CPU rack is coded in VB and that our controls interface is also coded in VB6. I have familiarity with the language but this is not a typical rack (like a PLC for example that I would normally be familiar with) and I'm unfamiliar with Delta Tau and it's command structure.
Seeing as we're in a bind, does anyone have knowledge on whether another drive could serve in it's place and whether code is likely to be needed in the CPU? I don't think it's reading feedback from this drive but would not be surprised if it's issuing commands to it through the software. Best scenario is finding someone who may have this drive that is looking to sell one working or knows how to source one quicker laying around somewhere. Anyway, thought I would reach out to the community and see if anyone has advice on this system. Thank you!
