The Main Power Transformers in the Facility are provided with Deluge Fire Protection system. Is it mandatory to Test & release huge amounts of water on running Transformer. Is there any Standard for Deluge Testing on running transformer

Thanks

See the requirements of chapter 10 and 11 of NFPA 15. Extra requirements are typically mandated by inssurer bodies (if any) too.

I witnessed 100’s of deluge trips on transformers 99.9% of the time the plant was down for annual maintenance thus no power to the unit. Most common problems were clogged sprinklers or failure for the detector to operate resulting in no trip. Key was looking at all heads to ensure they are operating and cover the entire transformer. I was involved as an insurance representative.

See FM Global Property Loss Prevention Data Sheets 5-4 Transformers 50 plus pages from an insurance carrier. They are free to download.
