In NX6 , I've edited the density of a couple of my custom materials,
The only way i can get parts that have that material, to update to the correct weight, is to open the material proporties dialog, delete the line with that ticked material, then re-pick the material (it re-appears at the bottom of the list), and then select the body.
I guess it's because when you pick a material out of the library, it brings it into the part (breaking the link)
Is there any way to update all of these parts, without opening each one and doing this?

Yes, the specific density of the material is assigned to the BODY as a system defined attribute therefore you must edit that assignment to change that 'attribute'.

so you're saying that i can't do it any other way than what I'm doing...
Even with a journal from the assembly, or grip etc, etc ?

I'm not saying that, just that you must edit the part files and resave them. It's not like the material is an external reference which if I change it everything referencing it will be updated.

Are you saying that you've edited a material changing it's specific density but you did NOT change it's name? If that's that case, then YES, you have to remove the old one before you can add the new one since the system thinks it's already been assigned and therefore it does not get replaced. Now if you changed the name, you could just assign the new material and forget about the old one since while it will still be stored in the part file, it will be orphaned (i.e ignored).

The name is the same, only the density changed.
Thanks for your help

Yes, so you will have to explicitly 'delete' the original material assignment and then reassign it.
