Hello,
First time here. Does anyone have experience regarding small dents in copper return bends of condensers or evaporators. We only do final assembly and sometimes we receive a heat exchanger with a small dent in 1 or 2 return bends from shipping. Probably about 10%-15% of the cross sectional area is dented. As a quality inspector, would such damage justify scrapping the part or is it usually nothing to be concerned with. Ideally we want to receive them without damage 100% but probably won't happen since they are delivered from overseas. Any thoughts or experiences? Maybe useful quality standard? By the way, these are 134a window type AC units.

Check them against the specifications. If no specifications, ask yourself, "Would I buy this?".

In my experience return bends are noted for developing leaks and with dents on the outter bend where the gas veolcity would be the greatest the development for a leak is increased. Therefor the coil has a greater possibility of developing leaks sooner then it would otherwise so if you insist on using these defective coils then may I suggest selling them at a discount wirh the provision of say a limited warrenty so the buyer knows what he's getting. Of course the home owner should be informed of what he's getting!
