Hi,

I'm located in the US and am designing a machine for export to South Africa.

Normally we use Dodge brand bearings - have had good success with them. Unfortunately the metric offering and availability for the type of bearing we use (piloted flange spherical roller bearing) is lacking for local availablity.

Would any of you have suggestions for a good metric bearing that you use on that side of the pond? I've looked at several (SKF, etc), but I'd like some opinions from you guys as to what has worked well for you...

You may want to look at a bearing that utilizes an adaptor for the final shaft size. Finished bore spherical roller bearings in metric sizes are not popular in the US. I believe FAG makes the spherical bearings for Dodge, SKF would be a contender as well.

Hi,

Depending on the size you've desgined in and any special features you may have requested on the metric spherical (if any) you should find that the following brands are available in the USA and SA

SKF, FAG, NTN, KOYO, McGill (single barell roller type)

There ar many other brands of course but I think you'll find these are the main ones.
