I can't remember exactly what happened, but the original owner (Omer) either retired, got sick or died. It all happened very suddenly about 10 years ago. My impression was that he was basically a one man shop at the time. So, if he was out of the office then you couldn't get hold of anyone. And, user's were quite shocked / surprised. At the time I worked for RISA which was developing a connection program of their own. I'm not sure if it was released yet or not.
Anyway, after a brief period of inactivity, the software was passed on to someone else. I don't know who. But, they have developed and sold the software since then.
However, my guess is that it's still a relatively small company and that if someone or a couple of people were to get sick at the wrong time, then there would be a brief period of inactivity like you describe. It's not necessarily something to worry about. Though I can certainly appreciate that it can be frustrating.
Someone with more experience using DESCON and interacting with their engineers / support team will hopefully respond with more useful and definitive information.... As my comments are based on what it was like 10 years ago and merely speculate about how that could relate to what you're experiencing today.
