Long time inventor user thrust into the thick of Solidworks library. Could someone tell me the term i should be looking for in researching library file set up.
I am creating library files and some of these are massive. Picking the part from the library using only the configuration name is cumbersome. eg. Standoff, steel, zinc plated, hexagonal, 3/16 inch dia., 10-32unc x 1" long. From there its a long way to Standoff, Aluminum, passivated, round, 1/2 dia, 1/4-20unc x 3" long.I don't want to scroll through 300 configurations each time i need a part, but, i DO want to keep these all in one file. Inventor uses "keys" that you select at the table stage.
I would like to pick part, then material, then finish, then body size, then thread size, then length, instead of scrolling down an endless list. "Parent/child" is NOT the right term in SW. What term do i research to shorten my tree?

Would you like the functionality similar to Toolbox? If so you can provide it next way:

1) Create a design Table with the set of configuration like you have described.

2) Next in Configuration Manager Tab rigth mouse click and select "Create Property Manager"

3) The PMP builder dialog appeared (refer pic 1.jpg in the attachment)

4) Specify the fields you would like be displayed and configurable. You can specify the Labels as well.

5) Once you have created the PMPage it will be added to configuration Manager Tree (pic 2.jpg)

6) Next when you inserts this part to the assembly this PMP shows which allows you to configure the model as you like. Note the configuration will be chosen automatically in accordance to parameters you have selected.

Hope this is what are you looking for.
