Hi All,

I am designing an outdoor lumber rack in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands and need to find some information about building codes, wind speeds and seismic data. Anybody have any information? Thanks.

KJOGLE,

See UBC 1997, Appendix Chapter 16 has seismic data for the Mariana Islands. After the Guam E/Q of August 1993, Guam changed from seismic zone 3 to 4. Saipan (CNMI) may have changed too.

Basic wind is 155 mph - and typhoons are frequent!

I recommend that you get a hold of the MIL-HBK 1002 titled structural loads. It contains many valuable and hard to find data for remote islands where the US has bases. Let me know you e-mail address and I will send you a link to the site.

Good luck
