Design of 30m Double Girder Gantry (Bridge) Crane

I guys. I am tasked with the design of a 30m double girder bridge crane (20t). The design needs to comply with AS1418. This is not designs our company typically do, but the client does not have a choice but to make use of our services (long story).

I have engaged the certification authorities to ensure that the design complies with all the regulations. As this is a specialized field, I would appreciate some guidance and tips for things to look out for and important checks is required. Any literature on the design of the actual bridge girders will be appreciated. The internet does not have a lot of information on this.

The girders are box girders made up of plates. The plates will be stiffened with stiffener and baffle plates.

So you're desiging an entire bridge crane from scratch? Sounds extremely uneconomical and risky.

But a place to start would be CMAA-70 and ASME NUM-1. They go into fatigue design, buckling checks, load testing, etc. I hope you've got a lot of man hours.

100% correct. And that was exactly my response and we quoted for a lot of man hours and it was accepted. So here I am and it needs to be done... I had a look at CMAA70. Will look into ASME NUM-1. Thanks.

There are specialty firms that provide this service, and more importantly, certification. Likely the most economical way forward. Lots of work ahead.

The good news is that while you might be doing it now, if it doesn't work correctly, the experts will be checking it later.
