Do any one has idea of design of spillways in hydrpower projects.
what are criterias?
is there any specific book for design of spillways?
need informations asap.
Spillways for hydropower projects are designed just like spillways for any other kind of dam. In the US, FERC determines the regulations if the dam is to produce power. However, if the State dam safety rules are stricter, then most would design to the higher standard.
As for reference materials, there are several good books on dam design, USBR book Design of Small Dams is a good place to start.
Here is the link to the book GeoPaveTraffic recommended, "Design of Small Dams", by the US Department of the Interior. It is a free, large .pdf download (904 pages, 61 MB)
USACE and NRCS have quite a bit of good information online regarding the design of spillways. but your question is rather vague, are you concerned with the hydrology, hydraulics, structural or mechanical design aspects and are you interested in emergency or service spillways or in principal outlet works / low level drains?
