I am considering an investment casting for a mid volume part in steel.
To save some operations, this might include a cantilever hook snap fit
detail.

On paper, the design seems viable, but I would like to find some real
world examples of cantilever hook snap fits that have been fabricated
in steel. Can anyone cite examples or references that discuss
particular issues when designing these parts in steel ?

Thank you,

Hi again,

I have researched this a bit more and think I can answer my own
question. Snap fits work with big features and softer materials like
plastic. The casting tolerances required to make a snapfit work in
steel force the designer to look at simpler joining techniques like
interleaved fingers and a dab of epoxy.

Thanks for reading (comments still welcome),
