I found this article confusing and wondered if anyone could explain it.The presentation was this morning so perhaps something will show up.

Robertmet, I too join you. 500C is not sufficient to change the interatomic distances nor break the bonds.

I hope someone here is able to give us a better insight.

The only thing I could guess at is the transformation of some steels from ferrite to austenite (thus affecting its magnetic properties, and strength properties) at higher temperatures...which, if it is what they are discussing, is a great big "duh" to most engineers.
