Hi,
I had started a thread about the same issue a couple of days ago but it has been deleted and I am not sure why.
I am trying to seek help about the hooks, development length and lap splices of aci 318-14. If anyone could provide some practical examples with figures I would be grateful.

@JAE
Thank you very much for providing info.
Sir, I just wanted to verify another thing. I have seen some articles that state ,the bend length of a column going into a footing (or the dowell bars) should be taken as (16*D), also the overlap length for compression members should be (50*D) and for tension members (40*D), are these numbers correct or should I calculate them using the formulas???

Those numbers may be shortcuts calculated from the formulae in the code. The code is correct. The shortcut numbers (40D, 16D, etc.) may or may not apply to every condition depending on bar spacing, bar cover, etc.

... and rotate the hook 180 degrees so it is under the compression area.
