Hello,

I'm in a non technical role but love this forum and some of the advice. RIght now I'm comparing two DIB-1 ball valves, where one is primary metal-to-metal seal and secondary synthetic o-ring seal, spring energised. The second uses a elastomeric "delta" o-ring with a scraper seat design.

My gut reaction is that metal to metal is more trustworthy, but I would be curious to hear feedback. Both valves are considered high quality in the market.

What are your thoughts? Thanks for feedback!

Depend son fluids, service ( on off or closing or opening under pressure differential) and how you seats are configured.

Oh and what leak level you want.

where's the secondary seal on the M-M seal? If inserted in then they can rip out under differential pressure and then the seal is useless.

Similarly your Delta o ring seal may not last if you have grit or sand.

A few diagrams or drawings of the seal arrangement would be good plus some service data ( pressure, temperature, fluid, mode of operation etc

Thanks for the quick reply!

First metal to metal seat is attached as VLTfeatures, second delta valve is attached as GVS features.

The comparison is being done for a number of media/pressures, but ideally would be looking at high pressure gas, with both high and low sour content. We're also looking at a few oil only applications, but I don't know much more on that side.

Typically temperatures can get down to about -40 C, nothing too crazy on the high end.

I'm unclear on what you mean by leak level. Could you clarify? Both valves would have a drain attached to relieve pressure in the ball if that's what you mean?

Seats are preferred to be configured as DPE x DPE. There is some talk about the Delta ring valve as havhing interchangeable seats, which the metal to metal does not.

Thanks for the feedback!
