I'm trying to determine typical exhaust characteristics for a diesel locomotive at idle or low speed. I've found a fair bit about the make-up of the exhaust gases, but not total flow rate (say per engine capacity and rpm) or exhaust gas temperature. Values for where the exhaust leaves the engine all together would be best.

Otherwise A/F ratios near idle might be helpful.

Any information at all will be appreciated.

Thanks

well I'm only vaguely familiar with locomotive engines, but here are some figures that are probably reasonable estimates and might help:

number of cyls: 12
peak BHP: 4500 @ ~1000 rpm
total displacement: 200 L
IMEP at idle: 105 kPa
