Sch 40S is a stainless steel designation.

In smaller sizes the wall thickness is the same between e.g.40 / 40S, but schedule 10 and 5 are not normally made for carbon steel pipe, but are for stainless.

Stainless steel pipes sizes by schedule and other "standard" wall thicknesses are listed in ASME B 36.19, carbon steel pipes in ASM B 36.10M

So the wall thickness might vary depending on the size.

A-53 pipe should only be purchased to sch 40, sch 20, std, sch 80, etc. not to the stainless designations.
