Can anyone explain what the difference is between U2 and UR3 in a cylindrical coordinate system in Abaqus? There is definitely a difference, I just can't seem to come up with a good explanation. Also, I'm assuming U2 is in units of radians but I question that assumption. I assume UR3 is in units of radians.

Hi teedit - I can see where you are coming from, but in Abaqus all coordinate systems at a point are Rectangular coordinate systems. So if you define a cylindrical coordinate system, at a particular point U2 = tangential displacement, UR3 = rotation about local "z" axis (axis that runs throught the point of interest and is parallel to the cylindrical coordinate system axis). Sort of tough to explain without a picture so you may want to refer to 2.2.5 in the Abaqus Analysis User's Manual.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for your input. So does that means that U2 in cylindrical coordinates is in units of length and UR3 is in units of radians?
