Hi! everybody.

Our customer bring a casting part, and he is saying that the part is ggg casting but we have some doubts. Is there any way or how can I distinguish the differences between a gg casting part and ggg casting part?

Thanks.

In the Internet page of subcontracting suppliers

a participant firm announces its production program:

"Leiarmach JSC is specialized in casting of grey cast iron (GG) and ductile cast iron (GGG) and manufacturing of wooden foundry patterns [...]."

Hoping this helps,

If the distinction is between a grey iron(GG) and a nodular iron(GGG),use a ring test to identify. A grey iron will not produce a ringing sound when struck, but a nodular iron will. Hope this helps.

I'd drill a shallow 3/16 diameter hole in a non-critical area of a few sample parts. Within a pretty broad range of alloys drilling grey cast iron makes dust, and drilling ductile iron makes real chips.
