Hi All,

Have a quick question. I am working on a sheet pile wall design. Client has SPU-IIIw sheet pile while the software I am using does not have this material in its property library.
However, I can find an equivalent sheet pile which has a property close to but lower than what the client has. Specifically I am using Larsen L604 for my design. Will the two sheet piles
perform the same in bending and deflection assuming both have the same Section Modulus property?

Thanks.

Alex

I have attached a picture of the property comparison between the two sheet piles.

Bending stress is a function of section modulus, while deflection is a function is a function of moment of inertia. Since you have chosen a sheet pile which has section modulus and moment of inertia close to, but slightly less than, the actual sheet pile, your analysis will be fine.

Also remember to use the correct yield stress for the sheet pile, in your analysis.
