digital cam under water what about the flash????

I bought myself a digital camera today and I'm going to build myself an underwater"house" for it. Some friend of mine told me that you need some kind of filter infront of the flash when taking picturs under water, is this true? and what kind of filter do I in that case need??

My guess is blue-green. Water is not very transmissive, except in the vicinity of 532 nm.

Your friend is most certainly referring to color-correction filters, such as those made by Tiffen and described here:

Those filters are for film imaging. Any color corrections for digital images can be handled by post-processing in Photoshop, Gimp, or similar.

When making your housing, make sure that the part of the housing in front of the lens cannot reflect light from the flash into the lens. This would be a major problem if, for instance, you just put your camera inside a fairly large plastic bubble.
