dimension problem

Being new to solid works, I understand that I will have some problems.When I draw a sheetmetal part , sort of like a channel, using alibre all I have to do is double click on the dimensions and a box appears so that I can change them. Solid works works at this sometimes, and not others, when I click on a dim, a dimension properties box appears.Then I can not edit the dimension. What am I doing wrong? thanks

SW dimensions should be able to be edited the same as Alibre (by double clicking)

Are you talking about the solid part dimensions, or the dimensions placed in a drawing. If in a drawing, are the dimensions "inserted from the model" or placed manually by picking drawing elements? Only the "inserted from the model" dimensions can drive the model size. The manually placed ones are "dumb" dimensions.

The solid part dimensions.I keep getting a box that reads
RD1@annotations.I am sure that I just dont understand what I am doing. seems like a great program. thanks

Dimensions placed on a model are for reference only and when double clicked will open the {b]Dimension properties[/b] box.

Only the models sketch dimensions can be edited to drive the model. When double clicked, sketch dimensions will be editable in a Modify box.

thank you very much. I did notice one thing. when I dimension an edge, If the dims have ( ) around them, I can not edit them. with out them, I can double click and the change box comes up.this is one of those things that is simple but it can drive you nuts. thanks

That means that the edge is already defined by another dimension or geometry.
The () signifies that it is a Driven dimension, rather than a Driving one.
