Is there a way to globally override all the dimension settings in order to scale them up and down proportionally??? Ie.... text, arrow heads, extention line gaps etc.... When making drafting views of large parts
I often need to draft them full scale but print them out on letter size. This is done so that exported views for outside vendors go out at full scale. To do this I scale up the sheet size to accomodate full scale views but then need to override all of these dim settings individually. Anybody who has spent time in Autocad would know this as the "DIMSCALE" variable.

Perhaps I'm autocaddin in UG??????? LOL!

I would very grateful for any tips on how to do this or a more useful UG approach.

TIA Dave

You may be able to create a temporary Pattern by changing your save as options and then place the pattern on a new drawing at a scale value so that it grows proportionally.

I have been looking for that too for a long time now.
Coming from autocad drafting, you think a high end CAD
system like UG would have such a feature.

Yes...... There are alot of things I'm missing, bigtime! LOL! I havn't been using UG long, it's capability is impressive, but there are some bottom end "ease of use" things it will likley never do as well as autocad.

Before passing judgement on UG, remember that UG didn't support "printing" until the past few (4 or 5) releases. UG was originally a UNIX based software & plotting was the only option. Granted, UG's printing or plotting may not be state of the art, but until NX3 its plotting wasn't what some would call "native" to Windows.

In order to "globally" change all of the values of arrows, leaders, text, etc. you first have to select them all then change the Style (or Annotation Preferences). There is not a singular command that can select all of those entity types & change their settings.

Should this not be what you want to see from the software, call (800)955-0000 & follow the prompts to speak to a UG CAD support representative. Tell them what you're wanting to do & if UG can't do it, request that they submit an Enhancement Request. You'll need your Sold-to ID, which can be found by selecting Help -> About then the System Information button. It will be listed under Server ID on the final window that pops up.

Thanks for your input Tim... I'll do that.

UG is a very good product.. no doubt. Globally scaling dimensions that are already placed would be a good enhancement. It would also be great to just globally scale all the dim settings before you do all the work.

Have great day!

I suppose it would be nice to scale them, but I think UG development wants just one setting, that way when someone is looking to find out why arrows are too big or too small, it's one less setting to check. Also I suppose they also might expect the user to pre-define the settings you're talking about BEFORE they begin dimensioning a drawing. I see the uses of it, but I'm not sure how useful it would actually end up being in the entire UG community.

As with most things, there are pros & cons & it's probably better to have it & not use it than to need it & not have it.

However, one important thing to keep in mind is that UG has recently undergone some major changes & this type of enhancement would probably be seen as something minor compared to what all is going on with the IDEAS software merge. Therefore, it might take quite a long time for UGS to finally come around & see the light. Also, there are quite a few things in UG that have just never worked as good as we (the users) feel they should & UGS is finally taking a look at them or in some cases completely re-writing the script.
