I want to find out dimensional tolerance (length, width & thickness) for plates A516 Gr 70 & A240 Gr 310. A240 says to see A480, but in A480 there are many types of plates. In which category to see the dimensional tolerance. For A516, the std does not mention any thing about dimension tolerance. Please help me

kpm21443, SA-516, 3.1 refers to SA-20 for dimensional tolerances, as SA-240 references SA-480.

As to which category your plate falls under, you might have to talk to a supplier.

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

You have to know if it is hot finished or cold rolled, and what size it will be. That is how the tables are organized.
There is no 'simple' answer, just the right one.

First, if you review the material specifications; A 480 pertains to General Requirements for Stainless and heat Resisting Plates, whereas, with specific reference to applicable plate material specification. See Annex A2.
For A 20, there are a list of plate material specifications, which A 516 applies. Review A 20 for dimensional tolerances, it is there in Table A1.1.
