Hi there,
I think I've had this problem in the past but I can't remember how to solve it? I'm using Solidworks 2010 and have created a new drawing from a 3D part and created a cross-section view. However, when I go to dimension in the section the dimension selects what appears to be an invisible line that is slightly offset from the line that I want to select. It does this on every line in the cross section. Have I clicked something that has created this error?? the model is only of a syringe-type design so fairly basic but I need several cross-sections to identify certain features. Any help would be appreciated!

Select Tools > System Options or click the Flyout icon
fly_Options-Customize-Addinns.PNG
with Options, Customize and Add-inns to get rhe Options window

Click Display/Delection category on left side.

Display/Selection
Selection of Hidden Edges
[] Allow Selection in wireframe and HLV modes
[] Allow Selection in HLR and Shaded modes

(un-check both options) to disable selecting hidden edges You can also use the Select Other option under right click menu it's the icon at start of second row of Context Toolbar to get a list with edges lines and other entities which you can highlight and select.

If the first option is selected only then you can pick hidden edges when those modes are active but not when Hidden Lines Removed or Hidden Lines Visible are the active display mode.
