Dimensions exploding as I draw?? 1

I inherited some R14 drawings. When I modifiy the drawing and add dimensions, the dimensions explode. That is, the dimension is no longer a dimension object. Listing the dimension shows different objects.

I can not find a way to make the dimensions explode or to chnge what happens. New drawings do not have this problem.
