Dip pipe velocity guidenace..

hello all..

i'm looking for a reference that sets criteira for dip pipe velocity for standard tank filling,, single phase..

i've seen guidelines of 2 m/s and 1 m/s but looking for an api type standard.

You can have almost any velocity so long as there are no problems in that particular application at that velocity. Every tank is a different size, and I believe at surge that there should be about a 5 minute holding time in your tank.

There are recommended velocities of fluids, but not sure what is flowing in your pipe. Crane has a good listing of recommended velocities. If you system is water your answer is fine about 1.4 ft/s.

There was another post where someone was having problems with foaming due to a badly designed tube. This might be a consideration depending what your fluid is.
