I am trying to analyze a slab using the direct design method. The slab is a flat plate supported by columns with no perimeter beams or tie beams between the columns. In regards to calculating alpha (= Ecb*Ib/Ecs*Is) since I am using a flat plate design with no supporting beams would I assume alpha to be 0 (ie Ib=0 and Ecb=0)?
