I have a customer’s spec. asking for a Magnetic particle test to be performed on the external surface of dished heads in the knuckle radius. I am using a 16" elliptical head with a 2" S.F. Is this head considered to be a dished head and if so, should it have been done by the manufacture.

It is not done as a standard practice by the head manufacturer. But is available upon request; at an additional charge.

MP or LP is must required as per ASME depends on the MOC

Yes, an elliptical head is considered "dished". The MT is for forming 'tears' in the stretched area of the outside of the knuckle.
