Dismantling of Alumium Dome Roof

Dears,

Can anyone help me with the safest and time saving way of dismantling an Aluminum Dome Roof.

Background

The tank diameter is 26 meter and 10 meter height.
The tank has been on service for ten years.
the Tank Type is Bolted.

You can either lift it off and take it apart, piece by piece, or just take it apart.

Contractors are responsible for means and methods. You should contract with one that does this type of work.

I have seen some videos of lifting the whole roof at once for a new tank,but I am concerd whether the roof will sustain the loads of lifting (especially as the tank is old). Is there a way to make sure that the roof is safe to be lifted at once?

In the case of lifting the roof at pieces, will we need to make scaffolding fully under the tank roof while dismantling or it is done another way?

By the way, we have a plan to bring a contractor to do the dismantling, but it will be a disadvantage to us due to many reasons.

If you have a viedo or method statement that explains the process, I will be thankful.

Without looking at a drawing, it is difficult. Would not generally expect serious corrosion in 10 years.

Some of the roofs are made of segments rather than one single piece. You can remove the some of the pie shaped segments prior to removal of the remaining pieces. It will make a series of smaller crane lifts.

From your other post, it appears that you're scrapping the tank as well, and I would think you could just cut it loose and let it fall into the tank and go from there.

Depending on where you are, there may be demolition contractors that can do this fairly efficiently.

Dear JStephen, letting the tank fall is not allowed, Due to some constraints, we might not be able to bring a contractor to do the job. That's why we need to make plan B which will be done by our team.

I would like to know which way is the safest, fastest and efficient to disassemble the roof and tank (Cutting by the plates or bolts by grinding, cutting by welding, or undoing the nuts).

Aluminum domes are often put together with lock bolts - the only way to remove them is to cut them off with a special tool. I've seen whole tank farms be cut down and sold for scrap, Steel tanks are easy. I have no experience in taking down an aluminum dome but I think you will wind up taking down to the ground or bottom of the tank with a crane and then disassembling from the middle.

The tank looks partially collapsed in the pictures.

The safest approach is to cut a hole in the side of the tank to allow entry so that a scaffold can be erected.

Support the roof with a scaffold.

Take the roof apart in pie shaped section working back and forth across the tank cover.
