Distance Between Intermediate Wind Girders

I am designing a tank that requires multiple intermediate wind girders. API 650 merely states that "..a second intermediate girder shall be used to reduce the height of the unstiffened shell to a height less than the maximum". Is there a general rule of thumb as to how this is interpreted?

hi, the only interpretation used by API 650 is by calculating H1 (5.9.7.1) & Wtr (5.9.7.2) and check whether Wtr is > H1. The ratio of Wtr/H1 provides the required quantity of Intermediate girders. Cheers.
