Hi,

We have a project in Europe and I want to know if there is an IEC standard or ISO standard that specifies the distance between an industrial control panel and a wall.

I usually work in the US and the NEC at section 110.26 give us a table of the working space between an electrical panel and a wall. Is there something similar in Europe?

Thanks,

In my opinion, all country have their own standard [for instance BS7671,VDE 101 and other].IEC 60364-5-51 and 60931 are common in a way.

I found something in
Part IEC 60364 7-729: installations or locations – Operating or maintenance gangways

Gangways is not a term used in the NEC but as I understand it : It's the alley in front of the electrical panel.

''width of gangways with barriers or enclosures between
switch handles and circuit-breakers in position “isolation” or
switch handles and the wall 600 mm''

''width of gangway between barriers or enclosures and other
barriers or enclosures, or barriers or enclosures and the wall 700 mm ''

So the recommandation will be 700mm from the enclosure and the wall and the door needs to open 90 degrees.

Is this apply to an industrial control panel?

Dear Mr RioSam
Q. " I found something in Part IEC 60364 7-729: installations or locations – Operating or maintenance gangways ...Is this apply to an industrial control panel? "
A1. In Europe, IEC grouped LV switchgear and controlgear assemblies (including control panels)* [assembly] requirements under IEC 61439-x series. Note: The text (....)* is inserted by the author.
A2. As regarding to the [installation] requirements, the IEC 61439-x states that "operating and maintenance gangways within assemblies" have to comply with the requirements of IEC 60364-7-729, which you are already aware of. I hope the above additional information would be informative.

Section 729 of BS7671 refers to maintenance gangways. It is a relatively new addition.

Thank you all i have all the information needed inside IEC 60364 7-729.
