I am looking for a sensor to measure distance (less than three feet) to the pavement from a position mounted on a vehicle. The position should be represented by an electrical signal such as 4-20mA, PWM or something of that nature. Someone gave me a name of 'parallax'. Not sure if this is a trade name or what. If anyone can recommend a mfg or point me in a direction I would appreciate it. Thanks Buzzp

I want to detect the heighth. So I want to know the distance from the sensor to road. The sensor will be mounted on a hydraulic are moving up and down. I need to know the distance from the sensor to the pavement at all times. The speed of the vehicle will be less than 35mph. Thank you, Buzzp

Can you give me sufficient details to find a solution ? <nbucska@pcperipherals.com>

Hi, Honeywell make a series of ultrasonic sensors that do this kind of thing.

Thanks to all. I have successfully used a banner engineering ultrasonic sensor. It has been in the customers hands for a month or so and they have not had any problems. Most ultrasonic vendors were not prepared to say that it would work on asphalt due to the color and the different aggragets(spelled right?). Banner said it would do I tried it and it works great for our application. Again, thanks to all for your help.
