Distortion during chemical finishing

Hi - can anyone advise if 0.5mm thick aluminium tooling plate might distort during alochrome?

I would think it could be easily distorted. But, this usually points to an issue with the alochrome; hard metal coatings tend to be high stress, so stress relief through annealing and process control is important, particularly the latter. There are process changes that can result in lower stress, but there may be density or hardness compromises.

Isn't alochrome a conversion coating similar to alodine? I don't think a process like alodine will cause any distortion of a thin aluminum sheet metal component.

By the way, flat .5mm thick aluminum stock is usually referred to as "sheet" rather than "plate".
