I am working on a DIV-2 vessel. Can we change standard flange thickness and still call it standrd flange, asically i can ignore Following warning of pvelite:

Warnings for Flange : FLANGE :

Note: . Check Fig. 2-4(6) of Appendix 2.
This warning should not be considered for Standard Flanges as permitted by
ASME VIII in Table U-3 or for non-Code vessels.

I'm used to a registering authority that is fairly picky about meeting the Code exactly. This would be how they would reply. Your experience may be different.

B16.5 (2013 is what I have handy) clause 7.4 has over and under tolerances for flange thickness. If you're intentionally building a thickness outside these then it isn't strictly a Standard B16.5 flange and becomes a custom flange.

Just wondering, you say you're designing a Div 2 vessel, and yet your "warning " is from Div 1?

Otherwise I agree with Geoff13.

And reference to 2-4(6) is incorrect as well. 2-4 defines types of flanges, (a) - loose, (b) - integral, (c) - optional. No (6).

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

error is just copied from PVELITE.
Ok so it means in my case(8 inch flange) I can increase thickness by 3 mm, but i was talking to an Asme inspector, and he said that we can increase thickness, because B16.5 says "tf" as "minimum thickness", but i think i should clarify this thing again with him.

My apologies, my mistake, I see now it is FIG 2-4(6). I suppose the warning must be referring to the note about the hub slope. Ignore it for a B16.5 flange. I don't understand why you think you need to increase the flange thickness.

Regards,

Mike

Regarding the flange thickness, please refer to paragraph 7.4 in B16.5 regarding the tolerances on the flange thickness. Anything outside the tolerance cannot be stamped as a B16.5 flange.
