Diverting runoff from a natural seasonal spring

I understand that sizing the pipe/channel will depend on the expected quantity of runoff. I'm interested in some feedback from anyone who has taken on a task such as this. I have had a wetland delineation made for the area and it has been surveyed. I'm interested in BMPs for diverting a spring into a wetland channel.

The BMPs would be a swale or pipe. Pretty easy.

The permitting required to not go to jail for doing that will be monumentous. Start w/ your state/provincial Environmental regulatory agent. If you are in the US, you will also need something for the USACOE. I'd bet in any other country, there is a similar, federal agent.

Thanks for your comments, LHA. I've had a wetland specialist delineate the area and received fill permits from our Department of State Lands and COE. I don't believe that DEQ gets involved unless you eject into the ground. I imaged the same as you suggest with a perimeter swale to collect the runoff and culvert to convey to a proposed outfall. I was interested to hear if anyone had other methods. Also, estimating a quantity of flow from the spring is somewhat sketchy to me.

I would be more concerned with the department of water resources as this may require a claim of water rights

Piped with rock at outfall should be an option, water rights notwithstanding. If you use a surface channel make sure the bottom is adequately sealed (e.g. use a liner if sandy soil) so that you won't lose your water through infiltration before it reaches the wetland.

What about the Watershed district that this will drain to?
