Trying to decide if adding an end parent view is required for my drawing. I am working with a simple cylindrically symmetrical object where I have applied a half section to a side view. I feel that adding this extra view adds nothing but more clutter to the drawing, but I want to make sure I'm following the standard regardless.
ASME Y14.3 section 8.5 states "Cutting-plane lines, arrows, and section letters may be omitted when cutting planes are coincident with the center lines." Fig. 8-9 which this paragraph references shows none of those items but also shows no parent view attached, which is in contrast to all other section figures provided nearby for other section topics. To me, this somewhat implies that the parent view may not be required.
In the Drawing Requirements Manual 11thED, the same premise is explained but that the cutting planes and stuff should be removed, however this figure is shown with an end parent view.
I've heard people argue/suggest both ways but I have yet to hear a more definitive answer on this based on anything more than personal preference. Thoughts?
