Do we need final facing for temporary soil nail wall? 1

Hi, I have designed a temporary soil nail wall based on the FHWA manual. It includes both initial shotcrete face and final cast in place face.
The contractor has asked if we can remove the final facing, since it is only for few months and after it will be berried in soil. is it doable? is there any guidelines regarding Temporarysoil nail walls same as FHWA manual?

Temporary soil nail walls always have just the initial shotcrete face. All you have to do is ensure you have enough reinforcement to handle the anticipated load. Not sure you need a manual to tell you that.

As MTNClimber said, no permanent facing needed for a temporary shotcrete all. Just install the thin (about 4 inches thick and usually ugly) shotcrete facing and lock off the nails against the shotcrete. For nails installed at about a 5' x 5' spacing, the reinforcement is usually 6 x 6 - W2.9 x W2.9 welded wire mesh. I prefer to install the soil nails before installing the shotcrete.

SamMary, remember that soil nail walls usually are not appropriate in cohesionless sands and where there is ground water. NJ has plenty of both. Soil nailing becomes more expensive if you have to case the nail drill holes through loose, saturated sand. Do you have sufficient stand-up time for the individual, 5' excavation lifts?
